How to visit Atuh Beach in Nusa Penida
Atuh Beach lies in a deep bay protected by rock pillars rising straight from the sea. The water is generally calmer than the south coast and the sand is fine and white, making it one of the more approachable Nusa Penida beaches for a swim when conditions allow.
Reaching the sand requires a steep but properly maintained staircase. Allow about 30–45 minutes for a viewpoint and short stop, or 60–90 minutes if you walk down, swim, visit the natural arch at the western end, and climb back up.
Local warungs at the viewpoint sell drinks and basic food. Because they are at the top, carry the water and other essentials you need for the stairs and beach. The atmosphere is more relaxed than the busier west-coast viewpoints, but calmer water is not a guarantee—check the conditions before entering and stay close to shore.
